Why Does Skincare Matter?

Why Does Skincare Matter?

Why Does Skincare Even Matter?

“What’s the point of skincare when lasers and injectables work so much better?”
“Why spend money on expensive products when I can just grab something at the store?”
“Does skincare even make a difference at all?”

I hear these questions every day in the office—and honestly, I used to feel the same way. Like most of my clients, I spent years chasing product after product, hoping the results would match the price. Most of the time, they didn’t. Slowly, my under-the-sink “product graveyard” kept growing until I finally gave up and just used a bar soap and a basic moisturizer my boyfriend had at the time *gasp*. Thankfully, that only lasted a few days, but it was one of the lowest points of my life (kidding, not kidding).

Spoiler: my skin still wasn’t happy.

And my experience isn’t unique—especially for people dealing with conditions like acne, rosacea, or melasma. These concerns are often much deeper than what over-the-counter products can address. While prescriptions can help, they can also feel confusing and come with side effects that make consistency difficult.

So with all the options available today—lasers, injectables, microneedling, peels—why does skincare still matter?

Because foundational skin health is everything.

Your skin is a living, changing organ. It responds to what you do consistently—not just occasionally. Treatments and procedures can create incredible results, but what you do—or don’t do—at home will directly impact how well those treatments work and how long they last.

Think of it like dental care– you can’t get your teeth cleaned every 6 months, not brush/floss between visits, and still expect to have a great checkup each year!

The same applies to your skin.

In fact, healthy skin responds better to treatments. Doing a laser treatment on calm, balanced skin will always give more predictable results than treating skin that is inflamed or compromised. That’s why we often focus on repairing and strengthening the skin barrier before moving into more aggressive treatments.

And this is where professional skincare makes a difference.

Medical-grade products are designed to do more than sit on the surface—they’re formulated to actually improve how your skin functions over time. That’s what creates real, lasting change.

Of course, skincare takes patience. Many ingredients require weeks (even months) to show true results. That’s why jumping from product to product rarely works—and why a personalized plan matters so much.

Your routine should be built for you—your skin, your goals, your lifestyle, and your budget. It shouldn’t feel overwhelming or frustrating, but instead become a calming, consistent part of your day.

After all these years, one of the most rewarding things I see is when a client finally finds a routine that works for them, especially if they’ve struggled before. I think this is because I am still in awe of what the right products can accomplish when used correctly. It’s so simple and so important. Once you get it, you get it.
